Windows 11 Build 25324 brings an important security update that adds warnings for unsafe password copy-and-paste actions. This feature aims to prevent users from accidentally copying their passwords to untrusted sources, which can potentially compromise their sensitive information.
Do note that this update is currently rolling out to the Windows Insiders running the Canary Channel builds. In this article, we will explore the new warning system in Windows 11 Build 25324 and how it can improve the security of your passwords. Whether you are a casual user or a security-conscious professional, read on to learn more about this crucial update to Windows 11.
Beginning with Windows 11, version 22H2, Microsoft Defender SmartScreen's Improved Phishing Protection helps safeguard Microsoft school or work passwords against phishing and risky app and website activity.
Users who have enabled warning options for Windows Security under App & browser control > Reputation-based protection > Phishing protection will see a UI warning on unsafe password copy and paste, just as they do now when they type their password. This change is being tested out starting with the Windows 11 Canary Channel Build 25324.
We are beginning to roll this out, so the experience isn’t available to all Insiders in the Canary Channel just yet as we plan to monitor feedback and see how it lands before pushing it out to everyone, says Microsoft.
Please keep in mind that builds published to the Canary Channel are "hot off the presses", thus Microsoft will provide only basic documentation for builds flighted to the Canary Channel (no known bugs, for example), and will update a blog entry if new features are made available in a build. Additionally, this release has a few new features and updates to the document, just like the last Canary Channel build.
