Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23493 to the Dev Channel, bringing new features and improvements to the operating system. The build introduces Windows Copilot, a virtual assistant that offers an integrated UI experience and can perform various tasks based on user commands.
Additionally, a new Settings homepage with interactive cards, native support for reading additional archive file formats, and enhanced volume mixer in Quick Settings have been introduced, along with several bug fixes and performance enhancements. Let's dive into reading more details about this build.
Key Highlights of Windows 11 Dev Build 23493
One of the key additions is the Windows Copilot, which offers an integrated UI experience. Users can access Copilot by clicking on a new button on the taskbar or using the shortcut WIN + C. The initial preview allows users to ask Copilot various questions and perform actions such as changing to dark mode, taking screenshots, and summarizing websites. Feedback can be submitted through the Windows Copilot sidebar.
Another notable feature is the new Settings homepage, which provides a dynamic and personalized experience. The homepage offers an overview of the device, quick access to key settings, and helps manage the Microsoft account. It includes interactive cards for recommended settings, cloud storage, account recovery, personalization, Microsoft 365, Xbox, and Bluetooth devices.
The build also extends the support for restoring desktop apps in the taskbar and Start Menu, including those not installed from the Microsoft Store. Additionally, native support for reading additional archive file formats has been added, such as .tar, .tar.gz, .rar, and .7z.
Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23493 brings a new volume mixer experience in Quick Settings, allowing users to customize audio on a per-app basis and swap devices more easily. It also introduces Narrator's natural voices in Japanese and English (Great British) for a better browsing and reading experience.
Several improvements and bug fixes are included in the build, addressing issues with explorer.exe crashes, taskbar reliability, search functionality, and File Explorer performance.
However, there are also known issues with Windows Copilot, Dev Drive performance, search box language display, file copying from large archives, and File Explorer crashes.
Microsoft encourages Windows Insiders to provide feedback on these features and report any issues through the Feedback Hub.
