During the first announcement of the Chromium-powered Microsoft Edge browser, Microsoft made it clear that the company is going to make the new browser available to all popular platforms. During the Microsoft Ignite //2020 event, Microsoft announced that the Edge Insiders will get the first preview build of the Linux variant in October 2020.
As of now, the Linux variant of the Microsoft Edge browser was available to Edge Insiders in the Dev Channel. Over a period of six months, it now moved one step closer to the stable release by promoting it to the Beta Channel.
Microsoft Edge for Linux is currently available as Debian/Ubuntu package, as well as a .rpm file for the Fedora and openSUSE users. As of now, only Dev Channel and Beta Channel are available for the Linux users without any Canary channel. Microsoft didn't mention the final release date in the Stable Channel, but it will be this year only.
Since the launch of Microsoft Edge for Linux in October, Microsoft has added new capabilities to the browser. It now supports the ability to sign in with a Microsoft account and enable profile sync across your linked devices. Microsoft Edge Beta includes all those improvements that we have seen so far in the Dev Channel.
To install the Microsoft Edge Beta on Linux, first, navigate to the Microsoft Edge download page and then click on the download button next to the edition/channel of the build.
