Windows 11 Build 22557 is now rolling out to the Windows Insiders who are on the Dev Channel. The latest build adds several new features and improvements. One of the key highlighted features of this build is the redesigned Task Manager and a new Efficiency Mode.
Other new features for Insiders in this build include folders in the pinned apps area of Start, live captions, a new Focus experience, Quick Access improvements in File Explorer, new touch gestures, and a lot more.
Redesigned Task Manager
Microsoft continued extending the new Windows 11 design principles to all other Windows applications. With an effort, they have now rolled out a redesigned Task Manager for Windows 11 operating system. This includes a new hamburger-style navigation bar and a new settings page.
Microsoft also added a new command bar on individual pages to provide you access to common actions. Moreover, the new Task Manager app is now synched with the system-wide theme configuration. That means it will now automatically apply the light and dark theme based on the theme configuration set in the Windows 11 Settings app.
Efficiency Mode
The other new change in the Windows Task Manager is the introduction of a feature called "Efficiency Mode". But if you give an eye to this feature, it was earlier named "Eco Mode". With the latest Windows 11 Build 22557, Microsoft bringing the same with a new brand name only.
This feature is helpful when you notice an app consuming high resources and would like to limit its consumption so that the system gives priority to other apps which will lead to faster foreground responsiveness and better energy efficiency
, says Microsoft.
You can apply Efficiency mode in two different ways. You can either click on the command bar in the Processes page or right-click on the process to apply the desired mode. Please do note that you can only apply Efficiency mode to a single process and not to the entire group process.
If the option is grey out, it generally means that it’s a core Windows process, and throttling it might affect the performance of the system. The Efficiency mode process will be marked with a new leaf icon. Microsoft is also introducing a new pause icon which will be used to mark the Suspended processes.
