Microsoft has announced that the company will no longer support the OneDrive Sync app on Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. This will come into effect starting . If you are using OneDrive on any of these platforms, upgrade to the latest version of Windows 10 or Windows 11.

 

In case your PC doesn't support Windows 10, or Windows 11, you will still be able to access your cloud files through the OneDrive web interface.

Windows 10 updates comes as Windows update service, but in case if you have downloaded the ISO image of the Windows 10 installation media, you might want to create a bootable USB device from it for fresh installation.

Microsoft announced that Windows 10 will be available on 29th July for new laptops, PCs and tablets. Apart from this, it will also be available as a free upgrade for a year for any devices currently running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.

Microsoft released Windows 8.1 RTM and Windows RT 8.1 RTM on 17th October for general public to update their Windows 8 system. Many people already updated their Surface RT devices but as an exception, few people reported on Twitter and Forums that they are not able to update their RT devices.

 

If you are unable to update your Surface RT or unable to find the update in Windows Store, you are one of them who are victim of a small issue reported by Microsoft.

Microsoft announced the availability of Windows 8.1 RTM version for the MSDN and TechNet subscribers today. That means, if you have any one of the MSDN or TechNet subscription, you will be able to download it from your subscription page.

 

General availability of Windows 8.1 will be on 18th October 2013. If you hold a Windows 8 installation, you will be able to upgrade to Windows 8.1 from Store after that.

It does not sound good but this is the real fact. If you have a Microsoft Surface RT device with Windows 8.1 Preview installed and facing issue with battery consumption while in standby mode, it’s time for you to turn ON the Bluetooth of your device.

 

Microsoft support team answered in a forum thread that it is a bug and the current solution to resolve the quick draining of battery is to turn on the Bluetooth.

It was not as smooth as I thought while installing the Windows 8.1 as a fresh OS in my laptop. Though the OS and other major software installation was smooth, but I faced lots of issues while installing some software's that need .NET Framework 3.5.

 

Did lots of analysis, tried various methods to install the framework but all failed. At the end I got an perfect solution which resolved the problem. Thought to share in case you faced similar, will help you.

During the BUILD developer conference on 26th June 2013, Steve Ballmer announced the availability of Microsoft Windows 8.1 Preview and Windows 8.1 RT Preview. If you have Windows 8 PC, you can download an ISO image and install it from there. But if you have a Surface tablet, the process is different.

It was the hot, sunny morning when we reached the venue for giving a seminar on Windows 8 Store application development as part of C# Corner Jabalpur Chapter. As it was a “Windows 8 Developers Day”, we had two speakers (including me) demonstrating various path of development.

 

As it was the first event there, we expected very little crowd and there were 12 people joined it and I can say that, it was a great success. I hope to see more crowd in coming days.

Today, Microsoft announces about Outlook 2013 RT which will come with Windows 8.1 (earlier known as Windows Blue). This will come installed for free on all new Windows RT devices like Surface. As Windows 8.1 will be an free upgrade, you will get the Outlook RT with this update.

Last year we discussed “How to Capture a Screenshot as File in Windows 8?” which you will find useful in your desktop PC or laptop. You will also find that post useful in a Surface if you have a keyboard attached to it, because “Win + Print Screen” key combination is needed to capture the screen.
