Microsoft recently updates its minimum system requirements for Windows 11 that now adds some 7th generation Intel processors to the compatible processors' list. The new list includes Intel's 7th generation Core X-series processors, Xeon W-series processors, and the Core i7-7820HQ processors.
If your system contains any of the newly added compatible processors, good news for you! You may now receive the Windows 11 update if all other minimum requirements are met as it was originally set by Microsoft.
Since the official announcement of Windows 11 in June, Microsoft has received a lot of feedback on improving the forthcoming Windows 11 operating system. The company also received many questions about the minimum system requirements of Windows 11 as many Windows 10 users reported that their system is incompatible to install the next major release of the Microsoft Windows operating system.
Based on the testing performed by Microsoft, OEM partners, and Windows Insiders, Microsoft now identified a set of PC models that met the principles of running Windows 11 on some Intel 7th Generation processors that were not originally included in the compatible list of 64-bit processors.
The company also includes more details about their principles that guided the team to establish the minimum system requirements of Windows 11. The company described them as below:
Reliability:
Devices that do not meet the minimum system requirements had 52% more kernel mode crashes. Devices that do meet the minimum system requirements had a 99.8% crash free experience.
Security:
Windows 11 raises the baseline of Windows security by improving the security default configuration to combat increasing cyber-attacks. These requirements were informed based on trillions of signals from Microsoft’s threat intelligence as well as input from leading security experts.
Compatibility:
People continue to increasingly use their PCs for video conferencing, productivity and gaming. To ensure all Windows 11 devices can run a core set of applications to meet those needs, we set the minimum system requirements to align with some of the most commonly used apps.
Microsoft also released an updated PC Health Check app that now provides more details about the issue that caused the device to fell under the incompatible systems list.
