If you are using Windows 10 version 2004 or newer, Microsoft released an emergency update (KB5004945) to address a Windows Zero-day vulnerability. This vulnerability is called as "PrintNightmare" and is being exploited by attackers to achieve local privileges and remote code execution through the Windows Print Spooler service.
All users running Windows 10 version 2004 (May 2020 Update), Windows 10 version 20H2, and Windows 10 version 21H1 must update their systems with this KB5004945 update by running Windows Update from the Settings app.
Windows Print Spooler Remote Code Execution Vulnerability - CVE-2021-34527
A remote code execution vulnerability (CVE-2021-34527) exists when the Windows Print Spooler service improperly performs privileged file operations. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could run arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges. An attacker could then install programs on the affected systems. They can also view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.
Microsoft has completed the investigation and has released security updates to address this vulnerability on July 6, 2021. This contains protections against CVE-2021-1675 and the additional remote code execution exploit in the Windows Print Spooler service known as “PrintNightmare”.
