Microsoft's new Chromium-powered Edge browser was considered to be generally available on , and after that, Microsoft Edge went through a couple of release schedules that added many new features and enhancements to the product. Now, the company has decided to completely wipe out the legacy Microsoft Edge on Windows 10.

 

Microsoft has published a time schedule to wipe off the legacy Edge and install the latest version of Chromium Edge on Windows 10, starting April 2021. Continue reading to know more about the schedule.

 

Microsoft to remove Edge Legacy with April's Windows 10 Update Tuesday release

 

In August 2020, Microsoft announced that the support for the Microsoft Edge legacy app is going to end on , and the Microsoft Edge legacy app will no longer receive any security updates. Now, the company announced that the new Microsoft Edge (Chromium) will be available for all users running Windows 10.

 

So, starting with , Microsoft is going to replace the old legacy Edge with Chromium Edge as part of the Windows 10 cumulative monthly security update (Windows 10 Patch Tuesday Update). This update will be applicable for Windows 10 version 1803 or above.

 

If the new Microsoft Edge is already installed, applying this update will not reinstall the new Microsoft Edge and will only remove Microsoft Edge Legacy, Microsoft said in the announcement.
